The Foundation Year full course and programme team were delighted to be named as the winner of the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Innovative Teaching and Assessment for their work implementing new approaches to education at Oxford.

The Astrophoria Foundation Year Programme, part of the Department for Continuing Education at Oxford University, was recognised at the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards on Thursday 15 May.

The Vice-Chancellor's Awards recognise the achievements and celebrate success across the University – from academics and researchers to professional, technical and support staff, whether they are in colleges, divisions, departments, central services, libraries, museums or elsewhere.

There were 160 award entries across the 11 categories this year, with 1,300 individuals included in the nominations.

Nominees shared their work at an Awards Showcase event in the Weston Library on 13 May, and winning and highly commended nominations were revealed at a special ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre two days later, where awards were presented by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey, CBE FRS FMedSci.

Dr Jo Begbie, Director of the Astrophoria Foundation Year Programme, said of the Showcase and Awards:

“It’s been fantastic to have this opportunity to showcase what the Astrophoria Foundation Year is achieving—not just for the University, but for the wider public as well. It’s so important that both the University community and the public understand the impact of the programme, so they can continue to support and encourage young people to apply. Winning this award is a wonderful recognition of that work.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the people who nominated us. Being part of the Awards Showcase was already an honour, but to win—it's a powerful affirmation of everything we’ve worked so hard to achieve.”
