In October 2023 Oxford welcomed the first cohort of Astrophoria Foundation Year Students. 22 students made up the inaugural Foundation Year cohort, with 19 (86%) progressing to undergraduate study at the University of Oxford. Those students who did not progress have either begun their studies at other UK universities or are considering their options. All have been offered support while they navigate their next steps.
The 19 students who did progress to Oxford are currently studying at 8 Colleges (Exeter, Jesus, Keble, Mansfield, Lady Margaret Hall, Somerville, St Anne’s and Trinity) in a range of courses including Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, History, English, Theology, Law and PPE, and have just completed their first term as undergraduate students.
It was a pleasure seeing the students’ development over the course of the Astrophoria Foundation Year Programme last year. The students worked hard and demonstrated significant progress both academically and in their capacity for undergraduate learning. Those students who did not meet the progression threshold have nonetheless developed their academic skills considerably, which will stand them in good stead in another HE institution. We look forward to hearing from all of the students to follow how they get on throughout their undergraduate studies. Dr Jo Begbie, Astrophoria Foundation Year Director
The first cohort have been actively involved in welcoming the second cohort of Astrophoria Foundation Year students. They have met up through social events and orientation activities and play an important role in building connections within colleges and departments and beyond.
